Understanding the New Marijuana Lingo

Butane hash oil (BHO):  Sticky, resinous substance created by extracting the cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant. Liquid butane is the solvent that dissolves the trichome shells and releases the oils inside. BHO comes in the form of wax, shatter, butter (budder) and jellies.

Blunt: A cigar emptied of tobacco and re-rolled with marijuana inside. Blunts last longer and burn slower than a joints rolled in paper, and you can also roll them in flavored cigar wrappers.

Bubbler: a cross between a traditional pipe and a bong (water pipe). Containing several chambers for water, bubblers are often small, handheld devices.

Cheeba: Street name for marijuana. Not to be confused with Cheeba Chews, which is a popular marijuana edible the consistency of a Tootsie Roll.

Cone:  Marijuana cigarette with a conical shape. Most commonly found in dispensaries and shops, cones are shaped like baseball bats.

Dab: A concentrated dose of cannabis made through an extraction process involving carbon dioxide, butane, or other solvents. THC, CBD and terpenes are extracted, leaving behind the unwanted parts of the marijuana plant.

Dabber: A long, metal tool used for applying a dab of cannabis concentrate to a heat source. The best dabbers are made from titanium.

Dank: A slang term used to describe very potent cannabis.

Decarboxylate: Use of heat and time to convert non-psychoactive THCA into psychoactive THC.

Diffuser: An air tube attached to a bong or bubbler to increase airflow and assure a cleaner, smoother hit.

Distillate: The purest, most versatile cannabis concentrate to date, and the probable future of cannabis concentrates. Because distillate is easy to consume, easy to infuse into food, and has no taste, it’s popular with manufacturers of cannabis edibles. Distillate is made through a process called fractional distillation. Also known as short-pass distillation, this process produces cannabis oil with a purity rating in the high nineties .

Earwax: A slang term used to describe a potent form of hash oil that has the look and consistency of earwax.

Errl: A slang term for cannabis oil or BHO.

Feminized: A term referring to cannabis seeds that will only produce female offspring.

Full Melt: Hash that bubbles and melts at the smallest application of heat. Full melts are created by sifting cannabis or by using an ice water method to separate the trichomes from the plant matter.

Terpenes: The fragrant compounds  in the trichomes of the cannabis plant, which are responsible for the plant’s aroma. Terpenes offer standalone medical benefits and enhance the medical benefits of cannabinoids, due to the entourage effect. Terpenes commonly found in cannabis include myrcene, linalool, and eucalyptol.

Trichomes: The crystalline resin glands of the cannabis plant, which contain its cannabinoids and terpenes.
