Aaron Smith, executive director for the National Cannabis Industry Association was in Oakland, California on business last week when he found himself in the middle of a gunfight. The Denver resident was driving a rented Kia sedan northbound on San Pablo when he heard gunshots, which he ducked to avoid getting hit and sideswiped a parked car which caused his vehicle to overturn, activating the airbags. Smith was able to get out of the car on his own and walk to a nearby business for help—he was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Police believe that the gunfire was intended for someone else but they did not hit their intended target—they currently have no motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to call the Oakland police at 510-238-3426.
