On November 9th at 12:00 am, Californians began to enjoy new protections from the failed 'war on drugs' with the passing of Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, a statewide proposition that not only decriminalizes possession and use of the plant, but allows for personal use for individuals over 21. The fury over the proposition did not subside with its passage as many who did not support the prop are now warning the populous of the mistake they may have made. Will prop 64 become the hallmark of national legalization, or become the corporate springboard for big business to take over the fastest growing industry? Whether the new Trump presidency will positively or negatively affect legalization efforts remains to be seen with. California's support for legal cannabis has changed over the past 8 years as nationally the plant is gaining momentum and acceptance and the prospect of increasing tax collection statewide and locally are driving frenzies to pass and ban the plant.
What does Prop 64 mean for you?
If you are over the age of 21 -
You can now legally possess up to 1 ounce of mariuana or 4 grams of concentrates.
You can grow up to 6 plants freely indoors (outdoors if you city/county allow it)
Families with children are now protected from Child Protective Services involvement as long as they abide by state laws concerning the plant
