Israel moves to decriminalize cannabis possession

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Cabinet has just approved a measure that would put the brakes on jailtime for cannabis.  The measure would instead reduce jailtime to a simple fine for possession.  Netanyahu said ahead of a meeting on Sunday that a "new enforcement policy" would have to be constructed "cautiously and in a controlled manner."  Israel has become the de facto capital for medical cannabis research and this move opens the door for a more open approach to cannabis.  A committee will study the best way to regulate cannabis and then make their recommendations.
